Early morning - we arrived at 5 am after driving through the night - just in time to get the polar-aligned telescope set up in the dark.
Pinhole camera. See the video (further down) on how this works.
Just after first contact (C1)
The moon begins its slow migration over the face of the Sun.
The moon makes its way over the Sun. Notice the sunspots.
Through solar filter glasses
The Diamond Ring
Just after second contact (C2)
Baily's Beads are a phenomenon due to the valleys and craters on the moon whereby a small slice of the Sun still shines through.
Notice the prominences at the limb of the Sun
A bit closer - the corona is glowing and only seen during a total solar eclipse.
A bit more of the corona (different photo exposure)
Baily's Beads near the end of totality
Almost to the Diamond Ring
A diamond ring again on the other side of the Sun - very near third contact (C3) now.
A video at totality
Just after totality
Video of the cameras, telescopes, etc. capturing the entire event.
