The Astronomy class celebrated the Fall Equinox on Sept. 22, 2010. On their cake is a sky map showing the ecliptic and celestial equator. The Sun is at a RA of 12 hours and dec. of 0 degrees - the mark of the Fall Equinox. Equinox means "equal night" (and day). That occurrence (12 hours of day and 12 of night) for Oklahoma City actually occurs in 2010 on Sept. 27. This semester's Astronomy class heads to Costa Rica in January (hence the relatively small class) to finish the last third of the course at QERC, SNU's "southern campus."
